Abstract

Literary ties exist in all literatures; they can be related to the theme, the content, the ideology, or to all of them. This phenomenon can be observed in Armenian literature of every century. Comparative parallels are being drawn for the first time in this article between Larisa and Kekel, the main female personages of the drama The Dowerless by A. Ostrovski and the play Pepo by G. Sundukyan. Both were deprived of happiness because they were dowerless. Ideological layers in the works of both classical progressive–minded writers put forward demands common to all mankind, which would contribute to protect women’s rights.
